My studio class is over.

I think I want to keep this blog runnin…Lets see how long that lasts…

Anyone know how to put my past posts in a folder as to hide them from the world only to take them out when needed?

Anyway, I can be out of the loop sometimes, if you can be too here is a link on the Copenhagen Talks.

PS Why is spell check telling me ‘can be’ is passive? Is it because people are often not or I too often?

For the next portion of the project, the new group I am in, Nabi Systems is trying to strengthen the bonds between rural farmers of Costa Rica and Earth University. Using Earth Universities Community Development program and our application in development we are trying to tackle the difficulties of becoming organically certified. Earth University is a private institution in Costa Rica that focuses on “human values, entrepreneurial spirit, social and environmental awareness, and technical and scientific knowledge. The Ubicomp class has been posed with a problem: How can we use mobile technology and/or service design to help expand Earth University’s current systems?

Starting point:
As part of an assignment, I was paired with a classmate to research different methods for distance education. Here is some of the data we compiled

Asynchronous Learning:

Cons with Distance Learning:
-Student Motivation

-Context of home life lost, what if student having trouble at home

Pros of Distance Learning:
-Can be easier to access by people with busy schedules
-A more personalized school experience
-Broader availability
-Technological advancements help get people interested

Nissan and Sharp as I mentioned in the other article combined forces along with DOCOMO to create a cell phone that (via “wireless communications and electromagnetic technologies”) is able to …”automatically unlock/lock the car door and start/stop the engine”.

Ford did some tinkering with cell phone capabilities too. With their SYNC program (developed with Microsoft). SYNC enables the user to connect their cellphones/PDAs/iPods to their car’s computer system (via Bluetooth) and control the device through voice commands.

In addition to Ford, most other car manufacturing companies also have their own version of SYNC. However I am not sure if any have done the same thing Nissan has; using the cell phone to unlock, start and connect to the car.
